Ask most athletes outside of strength sports the same question and you'll get a similar hesitation. Both reactions are working off the same outdated picture, and the research has moved on without it.
Creatine is, by volume of studies, one of the most thoroughly researched supplements that exists. Here's what that research actually says, and where the common fears don't hold up.
What Creatine Actually Is
Creatine isn't a steroid, a hormone, or a stimulant. It's a compound made from three amino acids, arginine, glycine, and methionine, that your liver, kidneys, and pancreas already produce naturally. You also get small amounts from animal foods like meat, poultry, and fish, though not nearly enough through diet alone to maximise your body's creatine stores.
